Biofuel waste is bliss

Ceramics

The Biofuel Waste is Bliss project transforms bioenergy waste ashes into sustainable materials for tiles and bricks, aiming to reduce the industry's CO2 footprint. They collaborate with environmental scientist Marija Spokaite to ensure environmental credibility.

The Vilnius Heat Plant generates 460 tonnes of wood ash waste monthly, posing disposal challenges. By using up to 55% ash in ceramic glazes and clay, the project minimizes the need for new materials.

Globally, bioenergy production generates over 476 million tonnes of ashes, with many ending up in landfills. The project seeks to address this issue sustainably, repurposing non-toxic ash for ceramic products.

Ash incorporation in ceramic glazes offers environmental benefits by replacing traditional mineral extraction, lowering firing temperatures, and using natural iron for color. The project scales up by offering these innovative ceramic solutions for interior and architectural use.
