Quick tips

  • Choose countertops like porcelain slabs, quartz, or certain natural stones that don't require sealing post-installation.

  • Avoid mostly plastic countertops or those with formaldehyde, like cultured marble or laminate.

  • For laminate counters, opt for No Added Formaldehyde (NAF) or Ultra Low Emitting Formaldehyde (ULEF) bases, with a preference for CDPH-certified materials.

  • Steer clear of countertops with potential lead contamination, especially in ceramics. If considering recycled content, inquire about its source and screening for hazards.

  • Skip products labeled as antimicrobial.

  • Select products transparently detailing their contents via Health Product Declarations (HPDs).
