Quick tips
Choose countertops like porcelain slabs, quartz, or certain natural stones that don't require sealing post-installation.
Avoid mostly plastic countertops or those with formaldehyde, like cultured marble or laminate.
For laminate counters, opt for No Added Formaldehyde (NAF) or Ultra Low Emitting Formaldehyde (ULEF) bases, with a preference for CDPH-certified materials.
Steer clear of countertops with potential lead contamination, especially in ceramics. If considering recycled content, inquire about its source and screening for hazards.
Skip products labeled as antimicrobial.
Select products transparently detailing their contents via Health Product Declarations (HPDs).
